Montreal, June 1st,
2010 – The Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra
de Montréal is moving to Place des Arts on June
1st, on the first floor at 260 de Maisonneuve Boulevard
West, where it will set up its administrative offices and rehearsal
rooms.
Established by the Opéra de Montréal in 1984,
the Atelier lyrique trains the new guard of the opera world by
offering young Canadian Artists—be they singers, stage
managers, directors, pianists, or vocal coaches—an
opportunity to benefit from high-calibre instruction and to engage
in professional activities that provide practical experience in
various aspects of the operatic art form. To date, 153 young
Canadians have trained at the Atelier lyrique, and a great many of
them now lead careers on national and international stages.
“After twenty-five years of existence, the Atelier
lyrique is delighted to join its Opéra de Montréal
colleagues and other residents of Place des Arts, a world-class
cultural showcase. This new phase is inspiring and can only lead to
good things, for both our emerging young opera artists and the
public,” declared the Director of the Atelier lyrique,
Chantal Lambert.
“We are very pleased to welcome a new tenant who
will benefit from the cultural effervescence and exuberance that
will continue to grow at Place des Arts, among the ever-increasing
activities being held in the heart of the Quartier des
spectacles,” stated the President and Executive Director of
Place des Arts, Marie Lavigne.
Four of the Atelier lyrique’s young artists are featured
in the Opéra de Montréal’s final production of
the 2009-2010 season: Cendrillon, by French composer Jules
Massenet, in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, from May 22 to June 3,
2010.
