
A youth oriented season of treasures and
discoveries
Montreal, Wednesday, August 26, 2009 – Place des
Arts is pleased to announce the program of its second edition of
PdA Junior, which groups together all the productions for children
and pre-teens presented by Place des Arts and its principal
partners over the 2009-2010 season. Representing such genres as
theatre, music, storytelling, dance, song and animation, PdA Junior
o ers a broad range of family outings from September 2009 to May
2010. Every week, and even more often during the holiday season,
Place des Arts becomes a gravitational point for young people aged
3 to 12, where they can live unforgettable moments with artists
from all disciplines.
Automn-Winter,
2009
As part of the, Journées de la culture
and the Sons et Brioches series, Jeunesses Musicales of Canada
(JMC) will display its playful approach, interweaving music and
animation in Coucou Musique!, a celebration of musical diversity.
Two other concerts will be performed by JMC in the fall: Le monde
merveilleux du Dixie and Fiestango.
In Un cadeau pour Sophie, presented by the
Festival international de la littérature (FIL), Gilles
Vigneault will transport young girls and boys into his singular
world of stories and songs: an adventure conceived by Monique
Giroux in collaboration with Gilles Vigneault, Ariane Moffatt,
Pierre Flynn, Martin Léon and actor James Hyndman.
Pouding et Pollution, performed by Le Petit
théâtre des tournesols, stars Pouding the clown, who
tries to cure our wasteful planetary habits. In Les aventures de
Samuel de Champlain young audiences will discover the key stages in
the life of the founder of Quebec.
As part of the Festival du Monde Arabe de
Montréal, the puppets of the Théâtre de la pire
espèce will perform Roland (La vérité du
vainqueur), which relates the heroic deeds of the famous knight
from the mediaeval classic La Chanson de Roland (Song of Roland).
Inspired by Dominique Demers’ childhood album, Vieux Thomas
et la petite fée by the dance troupe Bouge de là
demonstrates how a tiny young girl can bring back joy into the
wounded heart of an elderly man.
Les rythmes d’Afrique au cœur du
Québec, by Vision Diversité, draws us into the world
of Africa through the musical instruments of Mali, Senegal and
Ivory Coast. Finally, accompanied by conductor Stéphane
Laforest, youngsters will be able to pass through the looking glass
to meet the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) at Halloween with
MSO.
Holiday Activities
2009-2010
Holy Cow! by Théâtre de
l’Oeil will enrapture one and all: Tom and Bob lead an
investigation that resembles a comic book, combining theatre,
puppets and unexpected accessories. Les zidées
métronomes, by the Société pour
l’avancement de la chanson d’expression
française, will transform the human body into music in an
atmosphere of unbridled folly and freedom. Arthur
l’aventurier – la course au trésor, by Gregg
Musique, will lead children on a treasure hunt on the banks of the
Saint Lawrence River.
The singers and musicians of Décembre
will present Le petit Noël de Québec Issime, a
potpourri of pleasures from Christmases past. Continuing an
unbreakable tradition, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de
Montréal will perform The Nutcracker ballet by Fernand
Nault, a holiday classic that never fails to charm young and old on
the majestic stage of Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
Winter-Spring, 2010
Do nice pirates exist? So it would seem…
At least in La légende fantastique de Barbe d’or. The
Spanish troupe Home Dibuixat, for its part, will present Pierre par
Pierre, an imaginative exercise enacted by puppets and inanimate
objects. And Arthur l’aventurier will be back to enchant
young audiences in early April.
The Théâtre des petites âmes
will introduce Pekka, a turtle in quest of Mamzelle Lune, who
unfortunately cannot be found anywhere. Les contes de petite souris
will unveil some of life’s mysteries.
Jeunesses Musicales of Canada will be back with
a quartet of concerts: Les aventures fantastiques de Flonflon,
illustrating the diversity of musical traditions; Pierre et le loup
(Peter and the Wolf), the renowned symphonic fairy tale by
Prokofiev; Orféa et la harpe dorée, or the legend of
Orpheus in the Underworld revisited; and La grande tortue, inspired
by Amerindian legends.
The MSO will take its young audiences into outer
space with Odyssée dans l’espace, featuring music by
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gustav Holst and John Williams, and to
Arabia in Shéhérazade, a bewitching tale starring the
enchantress of A Thousand and One Nights.
For those who want to know more about the acting
profession, the Compagnie Jean Duceppe will present De Benoît
Brière à Napoléon, in which the famous actor
reveals his secrets and tricks of the trade. Last but not least, as
part of the 28th Rendez-vous du cinéma
québécois, L’écran merveilleux will
screen the best of Quebec’s animated films, in the company of
some of their creators.
Conceived for children aged 3 to 12, PdA Junior
is offered in a wide range of prices—and some activities are
