Automn-Winter, 2009

As part of the, Journées de la culture and the Sons et Brioches series, Jeunesses Musicales of Canada (JMC) will display its playful approach, interweaving music and animation in Coucou Musique!, a celebration of musical diversity. Two other concerts will be performed by JMC in the fall: Le monde merveilleux du Dixie and Fiestango.

In Un cadeau pour Sophie, presented by the Festival international de la littérature (FIL), Gilles Vigneault will transport young girls and boys into his singular world of stories and songs: an adventure conceived by Monique Giroux in collaboration with Gilles Vigneault, Ariane Moffatt, Pierre Flynn, Martin Léon and actor James Hyndman.

As part of the Festival du Monde Arabe de Montréal, the puppets of the Théâtre de la pire espèce will perform Roland (La vérité du vainqueur), which relates the heroic deeds of the famous knight from the mediaeval classic La Chanson de Roland (Song of Roland). Inspired by Dominique Demers’ childhood album, Vieux Thomas et la petite fée by the dance troupe Bouge de là demonstrates how a tiny young girl can bring back joy into the wounded heart of an elderly man.

Les rythmes d’Afrique au cœur du Québec, by Vision Diversité, draws us into the world of Africa through the musical instruments of Mali, Senegal and Ivory Coast. Finally, accompanied by conductor Stéphane Laforest, youngsters will be able to pass through the looking glass to meet the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) at Halloween with MSO.

Holiday Activities 2009-2010

Holy Cow! by Théâtre de l’Oeil will enrapture one and all: Tom and Bob lead an investigation that resembles a comic book, combining theatre, puppets and unexpected accessories. Les zidées métronomes, by the Société pour l’avancement de la chanson d’expression française, will transform the human body into music in an atmosphere of unbridled folly and freedom. Arthur l’aventurier – la course au trésor, by Gregg Musique, will lead children on a treasure hunt on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River.

The singers and musicians of Décembre will present Le petit Noël de Québec Issime, a potpourri of pleasures from Christmases past. Continuing an unbreakable tradition, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal will perform The Nutcracker ballet by Fernand Nault, a holiday classic that never fails to charm young and old on the majestic stage of Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.

Winter-Spring, 2010

Do nice pirates exist? So it would seem… At least in La légende fantastique de Barbe d’or. The Spanish troupe Home Dibuixat, for its part, will present Pierre par Pierre, an imaginative exercise enacted by puppets and inanimate objects. And Arthur l’aventurier will be back to enchant young audiences in early April.

The Théâtre des petites âmes will introduce Pekka, a turtle in quest of Mamzelle Lune, who unfortunately cannot be found anywhere. Les contes de petite souris will unveil some of life’s mysteries.

Jeunesses Musicales of Canada will be back with a quartet of concerts: Les aventures fantastiques de Flonflon, illustrating the diversity of musical traditions; Pierre et le loup (Peter and the Wolf), the renowned symphonic fairy tale by Prokofiev; Orféa et la harpe dorée, or the legend of Orpheus in the Underworld revisited; and La grande tortue, inspired by Amerindian legends.

The MSO will take its young audiences into outer space with Odyssée dans l’espace, featuring music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gustav Holst and John Williams, and to Arabia in Shéhérazade, a bewitching tale starring the enchantress of A Thousand and One Nights.

For those who want to know more about the acting profession, the Compagnie Jean Duceppe will present De Benoît Brière à Napoléon, in which the famous actor reveals his secrets and tricks of the trade. Last but not least, as part of the 28th Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, L’écran merveilleux will screen the best of Quebec’s animated films, in the company of some of their creators.

Conceived for children aged 3 to 12, PdA Junior is offered in a wide range of prices—and some activities are free! So hurry to get your schedule of events, which will charm young and old alike throughout the 2009-2010 season.
